REU Frequently Asked Questions
The Summer 2020 REU cycle will begin accepting applications on October 1, 2019. The REU will be on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Va.
Rising juniors and seniors (preferred) who attend universities in the USA and are U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States.
Yes, a $5,000 stipend will be paid in two installments (plus living expenses). Also, in appropriate instances, funds may be available to send program participants to present their summer research at a technical conference during the upcoming academic year.
Biology; biochemistry; chemistry; biomedical, chemical, civil, materials or mechanical engineering; physics; and pre-med programs.
Although there is no hard-and-fast application deadline, faculty will begin reviewing applications and selecting their summer researchers beginning February 15. Applicants are encouraged to submit their applications early as slots are filled quickly.
- Complete the application and “Statement of Goals,”
- Ask one professor to write a letter of recommendation, and
- Request official transcripts and send them to the application address below. You will not be considered unless we receive all three items listed above.
