Undergraduate Fellowship Opportunities
Each year, the Awards Committee in the Macromolecules Innovation Institute selects a deserving student for each of the following awards.
Selection is based on faculty nominations, area of interest, and academic performance. These awards are made possible by participants in MII’s Industrial Partners Program, faculty advisor funding, and endowments.
This scholarship is awarded once per year to a student conducting research under the direction of a Chemistry faculty member.
Award: The award will be made annually at the close of the summer research program at the discretion of the Adhesion Science Award Committee. The award consist of a $1,000 scholarship ($500 per semester) and travel to the Annual Adhesion Society Meeting. The award will be advertised in the Chemistry Commencement Bulletin.
Eligibility: Any Virginia Tech undergraduate or graduate student working in macromolecular and interfacial science under the direction of a Chemistry faculty member. The selection of the individual to receive the award would be based on their performance in research. The student should be a full-time Virginia Tech student in good standing.
Criteria: The MII Award Committee will select a student based on: Oral presentation and, if necessary, the written report describing the progress of summer research for an undergraduate or thesis research for a graduate student and resume and recommendation from faculty advisor.
Responsibilities: The student will be expected to be active in research related to macromolecular and interfacial science for the academic year following the award. For a travel award the student will be expected to present a paper/poster at the annual Adhesion Society meeting.
This scholarship is awarded once per year.

Award: The awards will be made annually at the close of the summer research presentations at the discretion of the Adhesion Science Award Committee. This award consists of $1,000 ($500 per semester) and travel to the Annual Adhesion Society Meeting.
Eligibility: Any Virginia Tech undergraduate student working in adhesion science and engineering. The selection of individual(s) to receive the award would be based on their performance in research as evaluated by the committee who would review the technical merit of a student’s research. The student(s) should be full-time Virginia Tech student in good standing.
Criteria: Selected by the Adhesion Science Award Committee on basis of their oral presentation and, if necessary, the written report describing the progress of summer research and/or resume and recommendation from faculty advisor.

This scholarship is awarded once per year, up to three students.
Award: The awards will be made each year based on nominations from members working in the field of adhesion science at the discretion of the Adhesion Science Award Committee in consultation with Michael Klonne of Bostik Findley, or his designated representative. The award consists of two $2,000 scholarships given out to full-time undergraduate students at Virginia Tech. The balance of the contributions is to be used to provide travel support for each student to visit Bostik Findley at a mutually convenient time and travel to the Annual Adhesion Society Meeting.
Eligibility: Any Virginia Tech undergraduate student working in adhesion science and engineering and conducting research under the direction of a Chemistry faculty member. The selection of individual(s) to receive the award would be based on their performance in research as evaluated by the committee who would review the technical merit of a student’s research. The student(s) should be full-time Virginia Tech student in good standing.
Criteria: Selected by the Adhesion Science Award Committee on basis of (but limited to):
- Leadership potential, as demonstrated by extra-curricular activities and roles;
- Involvement and demonstrated interest in adhesion related research, seminars, and other activities;
- Scholastic achievement;
- Resume and quality of recommendation from nominating faculty member;
- Diversity and/or financial needs considerations;
- Awardees may be selected from any undergraduate level, although preference will be given to juniors.
Responsibilities: The scholarship awardee is expected to be active in research related to adhesion science and engineering for the school year following the award. Furthermore, the student will be expected to present a paper/poster at the annual Adhesion Society meeting or other appropriate meeting during the academic year of the award.
